Judy Blue Sizing Help

Judy Blue jeans are one of the most-loved denim brands for good reason! They have amazing stretch AND recovery (doesn't stretch out after hours of wear) and a great fit for sizes 0-24W.  Once figuring out your true JB size, you'll be hooked!

STEP 1:  FIND YOUR BOUTIQUE DENIM BASE SIZE

For sizes 0-15:  Take your EVEN Department store size and size DOWN ONE to the next odd size for your BASE size.

  • Example: a size 12 would be a base size 11.
  • Example: someone who floats between a size 6 and 8 would be a base size 7.

For sizes 14W-24W:  Stay true to size for your true BASE size.

  • Example: A 20W would remain a base size 20W.
  • Torrid/Lane Bryant/Old Navy Plus Sizing: ladies will generally stay true to size to find their BASE size as these brands are a true plus cut just like Judy Blue.  A 20 at these stores will do the 20W as their base size.

Note the difference between size 15 and 14WSize 15 is considered a 'regular' size and has a slimmer fit through the hips and thighs but a bit more room in the tummy.  Size 14W is considered a 'plus' size and is a bit narrower through the waist than the 15's, but gives more room through the hips and thighs.  IN GENERAL, 15's tend to be better for more rectangular shapes, while 14W's tend to better fit hour glass  and pear shapes.  Choose your BASE size according to where you carry your weight!

STEP 2:  FIND YOUR JUDY BLUE DENIM SIZE

Here's the important part! :) Because most Judy Blue's are incredibly stretchy, it is recommended for ALL SIZES to SIZE DOWN ONE SIZE from your BASE size (as determined above).

  • Example: A size 6 has a base size of 5 and will size down to a 3.
  • Example: A size 20W has a base size of 20W and will size down to an 18W.
  • Example: A size 14W has a base size of 14W and will size based on where body weight is carried--either stay with 14W for more room in the hips/thighs, or size 'down' to a 15 for more room in the tummy and a narrower fit through the hips/thighs.

*Exceptions to sizing down may be styles that contain a high cotton content or specialty fabrics like velvet, etc., and it will be noted on these styles to stay with your base size.

ADDITIONAL NOTES & TIPS BASED ON BODY SHAPE

Knowing and embracing your body shape is important for dressing and feeling confident! It is 1,000% ok to acknowledge that every style will not look great on every shape!

Rectangle & Hour Glass body shapes:

  • Most denim styles will be flattering on these shapes in general.
  • How you carry your weight in your tummy will likely determine your favorite jean types.

Pear & Apple shapes:

  • These shapes often struggle with the fit of skinny jeans as they see them worn by others.  Skinny jeans on these shapes are often best worn with 1-2 cuffs and with low profile sneakers, sandals, flat slip on shoes, etc.
  • Many prefer a straight leg jean over a skinny jean.  The reason for this is that sizing to accommodate a larger tummy and smaller legs means that skinny jeans can be baggy in the legs and can look awkward as they taper in at the ankle if not cuffed.  A straight / relaxed leg will look intentional with room.
  • Many apple shapes are loving the wide leg crop look as the straight leg hides the smaller legs on an apple frame.
  • Apple shapes should AVOID SLIM FIT jeans as those are a super WIDE THIGH that tapers in at the ankle.  Only wear these if planning to do big chunky cuffs to wear like boyfriend capris.
  • Boyfriend jeans will have a little baggier straight-er leg also.  If you want to hide a bit of your shape, boyfriend jeans worn with a top long enough to cover your hips will be a great option.
  • All denim styles can look FABULOUS on these shapes when STYLED correctly so that you feel put together and good in your own skin.  Need sizing or styling help?  Just ask!
